John Humphrey

John Humphrey is Chief Executive Officer of July Business Services, a national retirement plan administration and recordkeeping firm he co-founded with Jim Hudson in 1994, with a mission of simplifying retirement plans through service, expertise, and technology. Under John’s leadership, JULY has grown into one of the largest independent TPAs and recordkeepers in the country, today serving approximately 10,000 retirement plans representing over $18 billion in assets under management, generating approximately $56 million in annual revenue, and employing roughly 240 full-time employees across the United States with captive operations in Bangladesh and Cape Town, South Africa.

Since 2022, JULY has completed seven acquisitions as part of a deliberate growth strategy, and the firm is now transitioning from a builder phase into a scale phase — focused on institutionalizing operations, improving processes, and deploying its proprietary Unify platform, a modern recordkeeping and plan administration system built with integrated automation, purpose-built stakeholder portals, and embedded AI capabilities.

JULY operates across recordkeeping, plan administration, advisor support, payroll services, actuarial, and TPA partner services. The firm’s affiliated advisory practice, Expand Financial, provides fiduciary and investment consulting services to clients nationwide.

John was named an EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2025 Southwest Award finalist, recognizing his leadership in building JULY into a national platform. Prior to founding JULY, he was a Certified Public Accountant, beginning his career with Ernst & Young and practicing for five years in Dallas and Waco before transitioning into the retirement plan industry. He holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master in Taxation from Baylor University.

John is an active member of First Baptist Church Waco, where he serves on the Finance Committee, and is a past president of the Austin Chapter of ASPPA. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. John has been married to his wife Alex for 32 years. They have two daughters — Lindsey and Hannah — and two grandsons, Wilder and Woods.
