Actuarial Team Associate

Summary

July Business Services (JULY) is seeking an individual to join our growing actuarial department as an Actuarial Team Associate. In this role, you will partner closely with a team of actuaries and retirement plan professionals focused on Defined Benefit and Cash Balance plans. The ideal candidate has experience reviewing actuarial reports, performing or validating actuarial calculations, and supporting plan administration and compliance efforts. This role is perfect for an actuarial student who desires to pursue Enrolled Actuary status under ERISA and gain hands-on experience with valuations, funding requirements, and regulatory compliance, but there is no requirement to pursue an actuarial designation.

The Gig

  • Assist in managing a portfolio of Defined Benefit (DB), Cash Balance (CB), and related 401(k) plans, ensuring timely and accurate service delivery.
  • Review actuarial valuation reports, funding calculations, and contribution recommendations.
  • Perform and review annual plan calculations, including benefit accruals, minimum required contributions, maximum deductible contributions, and lump-sum factors.
  • Manage calculation and delivery of participant benefit distribution requests.
  • Support actuaries in preparing and analyzing nondiscrimination testing (e.g., 401(a)(4), 410(b), 401(a)(26), 415 limits) for DB and DC plans.
  • Coordinate with actuaries on plan design considerations, regulatory changes, and potential improvements for clients.
  • Assist with compliance reviews to identify operational failures or plan qualification issues and support corrective action.
  • Communicate actuarial and technical concepts clearly to internal teams and external clients.
  • Assist with plan termination processes, including benefit calculations and required regulatory filings.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and legislative/regulatory changes affecting retirement plans.
  • Document client activity, calculations, and communications within JULY’s CRM system.
  • Support ad hoc actuarial and compliance projects as assigned.

  • 3+ years retirement plan experience, DB/CB strongly preferred.
  • Ability to review actuarial calculations and valuation components.

Our Wants

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, actuarial science, statistics, finance, or similar.
  • Experience with DB/CB valuations or actuarial reports.
  • Interest in pursuing Enrolled Actuary (EA) designation is welcomed but not required.   
  • Experience with pension systems or actuarial software.
