Senior Vice President, Product
Matt Welstead is Senior Vice President of Product at JULY, where he leads the software product teams. Based in Waco, Texas, Matt brings more than 27 years of experience in the retirement services industry and a deep understanding of how technology and operations come together to better serve clients and advisors.
In his role, Matt builds proprietary software and solutions for JULY and its clients while providing operational support for the organization, with particular focus on recordkeeping and trading. He guides the firm’s overall software development plan, serves as a member of the leadership team, and participates in strategic planning. He also facilitates JULY’s annual SOC 1 and CEFEX audits. His expertise spans recordkeeping, payroll integration, distributions, plan administration, and plan documents, which allows him to identify and implement process improvements such as integrating JULY’s recordkeeping platform with outside payroll providers.
Matt has spent his entire career with JULY, joining the firm in 1999 as a Retirement Plan Administrator. Over the years he’s advanced through a series of leadership roles including Manager of Systems and Technology, Director of Technology, Director of Corporate Services, and Vice President positions overseeing operations, systems and processes, and business analysis. Along the way, he has led teams across recordkeeping, distributions, payroll integration, and participant services, and has championed JULY’s ongoing Lean process improvement initiative aimed at efficient organizational performance.
Matt holds a Master’s degree in Taxation and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, both from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds the Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries.
Outside of work, Matt is active in his community serving at First Woodway Baptist in the youth ministry and as a Sunday School teacher and helping run local sports leagues for youth. He enjoys playing, coaching, and watching sports with his family in his free time. He has a lifelong fascination with animals and a love of the outdoors, especially the mountains (summer or winter), where he enjoys taking in everything from a different perspective. That same curiosity and steady outlook carry through to his work and his family life.
