What’s your favorite movie?
“My favorite move is Forrest Gump. It’s one of those classics that never gets old, especially once you learn about all the Easter eggs hidden throughout the movie (like the fact that every still picture of Forrest in the movie shows him with his eyes closed)! I love the fact that Forrest always embraces the situations that he is in and tries to make the best of it, even when he finds himself in them by accident (much of the time). One of my favorite scenes is when he just motivates himself to keep running and accidentally creates the iconic smiley face. Like Forrest, I always try to remember that ‘life is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.’ No matter what happens, you can always try to find the sweetness in life”
If you could bring back any fashion trend, what would it be?
“I would love to bring back fanny packs! As a mom of two young kids, I’ve quickly realized that I need more than two hands. I’m always running around looking for wipes, snacks, water bottles, my phone… The fanny pack may not be fashionable, but it definitely is functional at keeping all of those things close and right in front of you. With a backpack, you either have to take it off before rummaging through or have it half on/half off and you’re trying to contort your body to search the depths of your backpack.”
Name one item you would take with you on a deserted island.
“Assuming I had all other necessities (a tent, a camp stove, a water purifier and a lot of instant noodles), I would probably bring a Kindle loaded up with books. I’ve always loved to read and was the kind of kid that would finish the entire “Little House on the Prairie” or Harry Potter series in two days. Now, with young children and the daily grind, I find less time to read so a deserted island would be some great alone/reading time! Even now, I currently have 8 e-books that I have borrowed from my library that I am trying to finish (an eclectic mix of dystopian future/food history/murder mystery/political satire/a memoir on grief/an anthology of short stories).”
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“I don’t know if this technically counts as a “meal” so much as a category, but I could eat noodles for the rest of my life. I love the fact that you can travel around the world in a bowl of noodles – from American mac and cheese to Italian bolognese to Japanese ramen, Vietnamese pho or Chinese rice noodles. Eating through all the various Asian noodles alone could take a lifetime. There’s just something so comforting about sipping a bowl of chicken noodle soup in the depths of winter, and there’s nothing more refreshing than an ice cold bowl of Korean naengmyon (buckwheat noodles served in a cold broth, often with ice cubes mixed in, with some spicy gochujang on the side to really get you sweating) in the summer!”
